Increased insolation 20,000 years ago caused deglaciation in the Norther Hemisphere, according to a new report in the August 7, 2009, edition of Science. Further more, it was the onset of deglaciation of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, which occurred between 14 – 15 thousand years ago, that was the source of sea-level rise at the beginning of the Holocene warming. Such events are often associated with rising CO2 levels by climate catastrophists but the evidence says otherwise.
The Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) is typically defined as the most recent interval in Earth history when global ice sheets reached their maximum volume. This is conventionally calculated from sea-level records but, according to Peter U. Clark et al. this is an overly simplistic approach. Sea-level records do not distinguish between globally synchronous ice-sheet maxima and temporary regional ice-sheet maxima that can combine to produce apparent sea-level low points that can last for a thousand years or more. In their report the author’s describe their improved approach as follows:
We drew on 4271 14C ages and 475 terrestrial cosmogenic nuclide (TCN) ages that span the interval from 10,000 to 50,000 years ago (10 to 50 ka) to constrain the timing of maxima in global ice-sheet extent. For all but the Barents-Kara and Greenland Ice Sheets, the spatial distribution of ages is sufficient to evaluate regional variability in the timing of maxima for different sectors of individual ice sheets. Because ice-sheet extent scales with ice volume, our constraints on regional variability in ice-sheet maxima allow us to evaluate the temporal evolution of individual ice-sheet contributions to global sea-level change. Because mountain glaciers are highly sensitive to climate change, we used an additional 172 14C ages and 786 TCN ages to constrain mountain-glacier fluctuations from five widely distributed regions of the world, allowing a more comprehensive assessment of the response of the cryosphere to climate change.
The sea-level change at a number of the sites studied reflected relative changes in sea-level and not the change on a global basis. This is because of the variations in Earth’s gravitational field, deformation of the planet’s crust, and rotational effects on local sea levels driven by the shift of water mass from glacial ice to the ocean. “In order to evaluate these effects, we used a state-of-the-art theory that includes a realistic glaciation phase to predict the RSL change at these far-field sites,” states the report. From these up-to-date theoretical constraints a new model was built to predict the actual LGM.

Comisia Europeana ia in calcul introducerea unei taxe pe emisiile de carbon. Motivul aplicarii acestei masuri: incurajarea consumului de energie mai putin poluanta si lupta impotriva schimbarilor climatice, a anuntat comisarul pentru fiscalitate, Laszlo Kovacs. “Sunt state membre care au anuntat deja aceasta masura si altele care se gandesc la introducerea unei taxe pe carbon. Insa avem nevoie de un cadru pentru intreaga Europa”, a explicat comisarul european, citat de AFP.
Anuntul a fost facut vineri, in Suedia, in cadrul unei reuniuni a ministrilor europeni de Finante. Franta a decis in urma cu mai putin de o luna sa introduca incepand cu 2010 un astfel de impozit. Va fi “o revolutie fiscala”, a anuntat pe 10 septembrie presedintele francez Nicolas Sarkozy, care a precizat ca pretul de pornire pentru “taxa de carbon” a fost stabilit la 17 euro pe tona de dioxid de carbon, in cazul gospodariilor si al intreprinderilor, sau 4 eurocenti pe litru de benzina.
Taxa exista deja in Suedia, tara care detine in prezent presedintia Uniunii Europene. Ideea introducerii ei la nivel european a fost discutata pentru prima oara vineri, a subliniat Kovacs, care a precizat ca “nu a primit semnale descurajante”.
Uniunea Europeana are nevoie de un instrument pentru “a reduce emisiile de gaze cu efect de sera si pentru a gasi resursele corespunzatoare pentru finantarea unei politici climatice mondiale”, a explicat comisarul. In Europa functioneaza un sistem bazat pe cote de emisii de dioxid de carbon in cazul intreprinderilor, insa acesta “acopera doar 40%, poate 45% din totalitatea emisiilor de gaz cu efect de sera”, sustine Kovacs.
Comisarul european a declarat ca “incearca sa formuleze o propunere care sa fie aprobata prin unanimitate”. “S-ar putea sa avem un acord politic in primul trimestru al anului viitor”, a precizat acesta. Concret, taxa pe carbon ar urma sa se aplice in toate sectoarele care nu se incadreaza in sistemul de drepturi de emisie. “UE va fixa un nivel minim, iar statele membre trebuie sa ramana libere sa fizeze o taxa mai ridicata”.

It is exceptionally difficult to deny people what they want and enjoy unless force and threats are used to scare them into cooperation and compliance.
If the world’s bureaucrats can make a crisis of global warming aka greenhouse gases aka carbon footprint aka environmental harm, the next step may well be population control mandates.
The President’s chief advisor, Rahm Emanuel, has said, “It’s a shame to waste a good crisis” — certainly this is sound advice. People are willing to give up freedoms and self-determination in times of crisis. In the absence of a crisis, those who wish to force an ideology on a population must create one. Otherwise, it is exceedingly difficult in a free society to convince the population to do what otherwise makes little sense.
We have heard so much about the dangers of global warming over the last few years that the average person believes it threatens the survival of mankind.
It makes little difference that there is considerable disagreement over whether global warming even exists. If indeed global warming exists, it is even less certain whether it is a normal phenomena or caused by man, or whether it is good or bad thing.
Nevertheless, we have been told repeatedly that certain disaster looms unless we stop global warming. The claims range from global flooding in a few short years to food and resource shortages that will mandate the imposition of worldwide Marshall Law. Al Gore recently said that if we do not act in the next several years, it will be too late.
Despite the rhetoric that bombards us, the possibility of positive impacts of a warmer world is simply not discussed. Instead we are told we must take immediate steps — even draconian ones — or life as mankind has known it will come to an irreversible end.

Bureaucrats aggressively push the imposition of policies to curb “greenhouse gases” (GHG). These emissions include carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The feared “carbon footprint” is a measure of GHG emissions. All we hear is how we must reduce the carbon footprint. The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a bill that will impose “cap and trade” rules on emitters of carbon. The biggest emitters are power plants. This bill, if implemented, will result in an increase in the average household utility bill, according to the U.S. Treasury Department, of $1,761 per year — equal to a 15-percent income-tax hike. If enacted, according to a Heritage Foundation study, it would eliminate over 3 million jobs between 2012 and 2035.
The crisis promoters point to an Oregon State University study (Oregon was the first political jurisdiction in the world to legalize assisted suicide). Professor Paul Murtaugh tells us, “Up to this point, little attention has been given to the overwhelming importance of reproductive choice.” Murtaugh says each child born in the U.S. contributes 9,411 metric tons of carbon dioxide. He claims this is about 5.7 times the amount an average person should contribute.
Where is all this going? Maybe we should look to the United Kingdom. In March, a study produced at the behest of Prime Minister Brown warned that Britain must drastically reduce its population if it is to build a “sustainable society.” Sustainable is defined as, “Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” The British study suggests it must reduce its population to 30 million if it wants to feed itself sustainably. The current population stands at 60 million. Jonathon Porritt, spokesmen for the study said, “Cutting our population is one way to reduce (environmental) impacts (on developing countries).”
If the world’s bureaucrats can make a crisis of global warming aka greenhouse gases aka carbon footprint aka environmental harm, the next step may well be population control mandates. In the dead of night, the U.S. House passed a bill that will, in effect, be the largest tax increase in the history of this country. Could power rationing or mandatory population controls be far behind?
