The row over using surveillance information to spy on people has intensified after its was revealed that 1,400 requests to snoop on the public were made every day last year.
Councils, police and the intelligence services asked more than 500,000 times for approval to access private email and phone data.
Each one allows public authorities access to communications data – which includes records of phone, email and text messages – but not their content.
The Home office says the new figures “offer reassurance that the powers are being used appropriately”.

Despite campaign protestations about breach of civil liberties legalized by the 2001 law, the Obama clique seems pleased as punch to be the new puppetmasters behind unlawful government spying on the American public.
That includes shifting through your library selections, your business records and listening in on your phone calls. So be better be careful what you say about Barack Obama, just like you had to watch your mouth about George W. Bush.
Those provisions, along with roving wire taps and “lone wolf” monitoring, also give the government access to citizens’ library records, bringing howls of protests from librarians, civil libertarians and conservatives alike.
Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich has informed Sen. Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, that the administration is willing to consider stronger civil rights protections in the new law “provided that they do not undermine the effectiveness of these important (provisions).”
That’s what we call lip service.

Pare sa fie o tenologie extraterestra, insa aceasta aeronava nu este nici pe departe un OZN. Avionul, denumit Odysseus, este alimentat de la Soare si poate sta in aer vreme de cinci ani in continuu, noteaza, vineri, “Mail Online”.
Configuratia sa, in forma literei Z, se intinde pe 150 de metri, astfel ca poate fi ajustat pentru ca el sa absoarba cat mai multa putere solara. Pe timp de noapte, avionul zboara intr-o linie dreapta pentru eficienta aerodinamica, energia absorbita pana atunci incarcandu-i bateriile ce alimenteaza motoarele electrice. Aeronava a fost creata astfel incat sa poata atinge altitudini intre 18.000 si 27.400 de metri, astfel ca poate fi folosita pentru supraveghere, comunicatii si monitorizarea mediului inconjurator, cum ar fi schimbarile climatice.
Compania americana Aurora Flight Sciences a dezvoltat aeronava in cadrul programului “Vulture”, cu ajutorul BAE systems (cea mai mare companie europeana din industria apararii - n.r), dezvoltate de laboratoarele CS Draper si corporatia Sierra Nevada, mai precizeaza sursa citata.
