The UK government is about to spend $700 million dollars installing surveillance cameras inside the private homes of citizens to ensure that children go to bed on time, attend school and eat proper meals.
No you aren’t reading a passage from George Orwell’s 1984 or Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, this is Britain in 2009, a country which already has more surveillance cameras watching its population than the whole of Europe put together.
Now the government is embarking on a scheme called “Family Intervention Projects” which will literally create a nanny state on steroids, with social services goons and private security guards given the authority to make regular “home checks” to ensure parents are raising their children correctly.
Telescreens will also be installed so government spies can keep an eye on whether parents are mistreating kids and whether the kids are fulfilling their obligations under a pre-signed contract.
Around 2,000 families have been targeted by this program so far and the government wants to snare 20,000 more within the next two years. The tab will be picked up by the taxpayer, with the “interventions” being funded through local council authorities.
Another key aspect of the program will see parents deemed “responsible” by the government handed the power to denounce and report bad parents who allow their children to engage in bad behavior. Such families will then be targeted for “interventions”.
Both parents and children will also be forced to sign a “behavior contract” with the government known as Home School Agreements before the start of every year, in which the state will dictate obligations that it expects to be met.
The opposition Conservative Party, who are clear favorites to win the next British election, commented that the program does not go far enough and is “too little, too late.”
Respondents to a Daily Express article about the new program expressed their shock at the totalitarian implications of what is unfolding in the United Kingdom under the guise of social services initiatives.
“Sorry, but what the hell? Why are people not up in arms about this?,” writes one, “This is a complete invasion of privacy, and it totally ignores the fact that the state does NOT own kids. It’s not up to them how parents choose to raise their children, as long as the parents do not actively harm them. Why on earth aren’t the public rioting? It’s completely anathema to basic British freedoms.”
“Excuse me!?! What an incredible intrusion into the privacy of a family! George Orwell must be spinning in his grave right now,” writes another.
“I have one comment to make: it completely violates Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (Human Rights Act 1998). Has this minister and his lackies even done any basic homework on basic human rights and civil liberties? Or rather they’ve just decided to completely ignore them,” adds another.
The move to install surveillance cameras inside private homes is also on the agenda across the pond. In February 2006, Houston Chief of Police Harold Hurtt said cameras should be placed inside apartments and homes in order to “fight crime” due to there being a shortage of police officers.
“I know a lot of people are concerned about Big Brother, but my response to that is, if you are not doing anything wrong, why should you worry about it?” Chief Hurtt told reporters.
Andy Teas with the Houston Apartment Association supported the proposal, saying privacy concerns would take a back seat to many people who would, “appreciate the thought of extra eyes looking out for them.”
If such programs come to fruition and are implemented on a mass scale then the full scope of George Orwell’s depiction of a totalitarian society is his classic novel 1984 will have been realized.

Avionul de supraveghere care poate zbura cinci ani non-stop! :
Pare sa fie o tenologie extraterestra, insa aceasta aeronava nu este nici pe departe un OZN. Avionul, denumit Odysseus, este alimentat de la Soare si poate sta in aer vreme de cinci ani in continuu, noteaza, vineri, “Mail Online”.
Configuratia sa, in forma literei Z, se intinde pe 150 de metri, astfel ca poate fi ajustat pentru ca el sa absoarba cat mai multa putere solara. Pe timp de noapte, avionul zboara intr-o linie dreapta pentru eficienta aerodinamica, energia absorbita pana atunci incarcandu-i bateriile ce alimenteaza motoarele electrice. Aeronava a fost creata astfel incat sa poata atinge altitudini intre 18.000 si 27.400 de metri, astfel ca poate fi folosita pentru supraveghere, comunicatii si monitorizarea mediului inconjurator, cum ar fi schimbarile climatice.
Compania americana Aurora Flight Sciences a dezvoltat aeronava in cadrul programului “Vulture”, cu ajutorul BAE systems (cea mai mare companie europeana din industria apararii - n.r), dezvoltate de laboratoarele CS Draper si corporatia Sierra Nevada, mai precizeaza sursa citata.

Angajatorii din Marea Britanie vor fi obligati de autoritati sa-si inregistreze personalul in baza de date anti-pedofilie a Guvernului, scrie, marti, telegraph.co.uk. Masura este valabila chiar si in cazul in care angajatii nu intra in contact cu cei mici, in timpul serviciului.O parte dintre adultii care lucreaza in scoli, chiar si parintii care participa la evenimente sportive alaturi de alti copii, au fost introdusi deja in baza de date anti-pedofilie, care cuprinde informatii despre trecutul, bolile psihice si inclinatiile sexuale ale inivizilor.Oficialii britanici au declarat ca, in urmatoarea perioada, numarul persoanelor inscrise in baza de date anti-pedofilie va creste. Asta pentru ca angajatorii se vor teme sa nu piarda parteneriate cu alte companii, refuzand ca angajatii lor sa fie trecuti in baza de date oficiala. Plus ca oamenii care ofera, de exemplu, lectii particulare de pian sau care lucreaza pe cont propriu cu cei mici vor avea o credibilitate mai mare in fata parintilor, cand le vor spune ca Guvernul le-a dat permisiunea sa fie profesorii sau ingrijitorii copiilor.

Dupa ce citesc toate astea, nu pot sa nu ma gandesc la numarul incredibil de mare si in continua crestere a celor care au carente majore in educatie si care sfarsesc intr-un procent (iarasi in crestere)destul de mare in a deveni o povara pentru ceilalti membrii ai societatii care muncesc si castiga cinstit, platitorii de somaj pentru cei mai multi dintre cei mentionati sus. La fel de repede imi vin in minte toti parvenitii care in ziua de azi sunt cotati ca oameni cu influenta (si de multe ori chiar o au), cei care formeaza atat de popularele categorii de “shmekeri”, descurcareti, si altii asemenea lor, incepand de la valutistii de la coltul strazii si terminand cu magnatii becalieni. Toti acestia sunt progeniturile unor generatii de oameni proveniti de pe bancile scolilor de acum 20 - 30 de ani, unde toata lumea trebuia sa treaca clasa ca sa iasa planul. Mai tarziu, dupa dobandirea mult ravnitei “libertati” si a democratiei pe care oricum nu o intelegem ca nu am avut-o niciodata pana acu 20 de ani (in timp ce cei din vest o au impregnata in gene de sute de ani) , acesti indivizi care formaza o patura sociala in continua expansiune, au ajuns pe bancile noilor scoli, unde nu mai erau fortati sa treaca clasa. Si pentru ca parintii au inteles ca “a fi liber” inseamna ca poti sa lasi copilul sa faca ce vrea (sau mai bine sa-l tii pe langa casa toata ziua ca sa-l poti trimite dupa vodca si tigari), elementul social nou nascut, copilul post-revolutionar, a ajuns o lepra in toata slendoarea. Lepra insa trebuie sa traiasca si ea, si pentru ca nu toate leprele e prosti, cei care au mai avut cat de cat calitati intelectuale ascunse, le-au pus in practica la un mod empiric, ajungand tinerii “liberi” din ziua de azi (vezi categoriile de mai sus…shmekeri, etc.). Liberi sa injure si sa scuipe cand, unde si pe cine vor ei, liberi sa “traga tzeapa”, sa fure, sa faca orice ca “sa sara banu” numai sa munceasca nu.
Acestea fiind luate in consideratie, plus faptul ca cele descrise mai sus nu sunt in totalitate un produs original romanesc, cred ca “orwellizarea” cu scopul declarat (dar nu neaparat real) de “sprijinire” fortata a educatiei copiilor e o masura pe cat de socanta pe atat de explicabila. Acceptarea sau neacceptarea de catre populatie (daca exista vreo putere de decizie) este o problema spinoasa din punctul meu de vedere, intrucat ligitimarea programului si a metodei in sine face foarte dificila estimarea pe termen lung a unor eventuale efecte negative in educatia copiilor vizati ca tinte “protejate”. In acelasi timp, din punct de vedere al libertatilor sociale, efecte negative imediate sunt usor de estimat, insa din nou ele nu afecteaza segmentul vizat, ele reflectandu-se cu precadere asupra parintilor sau tutorilor copiilor. Cred ca s-ar putea afirma ca insasi acest efect se va resimti in educatia ulterioara a copilului, in calitati si trasaturi de caracter ce vor fi modificate iremediabil. Altfel spus copilul crescut intr-un mediu controlat in acest fel, va deveni un semirobot lipsit fie de simt civic si/sau al proprietatii, fie lipsit de integritate sau creativitate. Va beneficia fara discutie de educatie “propice” asa cum o vizeaza guvernul… cum s-ar spune… desi guvernul insusi e doar un instrument de punere in aplicare a unui asemenea proiect. Insa educatia fa fi puternic orientata catre un anumit sistem de valori, menit a determina apartenenta individului la un anumit sistem social-politic in cadrul caruia el, individul educat sub “aripa” guvernului, va fi (functie de capacitatile intelectuale si reusitele personale) controlat mai usor sau promovat la un nivel si intr-o pozitie de unde va efectua fara nici un efort sau resentiment “munca de sistem”. Asadar un lup in haine de oaie. Un totalitarism ascuns in spatele educatiei de calitate si instrumentat aproape fara cusur de politica comunicatiilor, pentru aservirea puterii.
Personal gasesc abordarea interesanta, si cred ca sunt multe puncte de vedere care minimizeaza sansele populatiei de rand de a nega in vreun fel “beneficiul” final si implementarea propriu-zisa a sistemului. Om vedea ce se va intampla…
